In January 2012, I watched an episode of Top Gear that changed my life. They were at Lydden Hill doing a rallycross feature.
I’ve always loved motorsport, but let go of the dream of driving nearly 20 years ago. However, as a result of that Top Gear program, we went to watch the British Rallycross event at Lydden Hill in March 2012. A year later, I was on the grid myself.
You could do it too.
There are classes of rallycross open to all sorts of cars, but I went for the Swift championship run by Peter Gwynne Motorsport. Click here for details of the championship, and how you can get started yourself. From test days to get you started, to single race car hire or a full season with your own car, the Swift Rallycross Championship can cater for you.
By all means, go and watch it. Rallycross is infectious, fast paced, colourful and friendly. There is something for everyone.
